An international technology-driven company specialized in advanced data solutions and connected systems is looking for a Product Systems Engineer – Connected Products
to join its R&D team.
The company operates globally and develops integrated solutions combining hardware, software, and data to support more efficient, sustainable, and informed decision-making across multiple industries. Its innovation-driven environment and strong international presence provide the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and impactful projects.
Role Overview
Within the R&D department, the Product Systems Engineer – Connected Products is responsible for ensuring the end-to-end technical coherence of connected products as complete systems, spanning mechanics, hardware, firmware, and edge algorithms. The role defines and maintains system architecture, interfaces, and technical trade-offs, ensuring consistent system behaviour from early concept and requirements through development, industrialization, and lifecycle support.
The Product Systems Engineer provides cross-functional technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and locations, translating product intent into system-level technical plans, integration constraints, and verification criteria. While specialist teams own most component-level development, the role requires a hands-on approach and direct contribution to critical technical activities, particularly in system integration, troubleshooting, validation readiness, and risk reduction, ensuring that delivery remains practical, timely, and robust.
The position carries accountability for system-level quality and integration readiness, including coordination of technical compliance with manufacturing and certification requirements. It also includes ownership of system-level issue triage and technical decision-making after product release, ensuring that changes and fixes are assessed for their end-to-end system impact.
Key Responsibilities
The role is accountable for system-level technical delivery across the full product lifecycle, ensuring that architecture, integration, and technical risks are actively managed and that functional teams are aligned to a coherent system plan.
This is achieved through technical leadership, prioritization of system risks, and hands-on contribution where needed, without direct ownership of project execution or resource management.
- The position includes conducting preliminary feasibility studies to support business decisions, providing high-level technical insights that enable prioritization across multiple projects.
- The Product Systems Engineer leads the design, integration, and validation of complex systems, ensuring they meet all technical and regulatory requirements. This includes developing system architectures, validating design solutions, and ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- The role also provides technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams through mentoring, design reviews, and system-level guidance, influencing technical direction and engineering best practices without direct line management responsibility.
Additional Responsibilities
- The position involves designing system architectures in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, always considering scalability and cross-project reusability. It requires fostering a collaborative and innovative engineering culture by mentoring engineering teams and promoting knowledge sharing.
- Clear and effective communication of project updates, technical challenges, and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders is essential. The role also includes identifying risks and defining mitigation strategies, ensuring all projects comply with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
- The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience in technical development, including experience coordinating or leading technical activities across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong expertise in system architecture, integration, and validation is essential, along with familiarity with engineering tools and development processes.
- The role requires solid analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to lead and align teams in complex development environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
Key Competencies
- The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to guide and motivate multidisciplinary teams without formal authority.
- A strategic and systemic mindset is essential, with the ability to see the big picture, anticipate challenges, and approach complex problems with a structured and holistic approach.
- The role requires strong communication skills, enabling effective interaction with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, as well as adaptability in dynamic environments with evolving requirements.
- A proactive and innovative mindset is expected, with a focus on continuous improvement of processes, tools, and systems to enhance efficiency and reduce bottlenecks.
- Strong prioritization and time management skills are necessary to coordinate activities across teams while maintaining high quality standards. A customer-oriented approach is also key, ensuring alignment between engineering solutions and end-user needs.
What’s Offered
- Salary Range: 90-100k CHF/year
